Spotless was a Netflix Original foreign series that dropped onto the service back in 2016. Despite the series actually getting renewed, we’re still yet to hear anything regarding the second season. Is the show now dead, facing development hell or vanished? Let’s take a look.

The dark comedy first aired in France on Canal+ back in early 2015. It wasn’t until October 15th, 2016 that it started making its way onto Netflix. In the United States, the series was actually carried by Esquire Network before making its way onto Netflix. The series is dubbed as an Original in every region except France and the United States.
The moody dark comedy scored well with both fans and critics. It was one of the big shows for Esquire Network who eventually decided to renew the show.
To understand what happened to Spotless, we need to dive a little deeper on Esquire Network who announced that season 2 was coming as early as April 2016.

Spotless 1 1 2 Fullview Storm Doors
The network was a 50/50 venture between NBCUniversal and the Hearst Corporation, a company who owns Esquire Magazine. The network was replacing the outgoing G4 producing a mixture of programming including some foreign acquisitions like Spotless.

Sadly, had Spotless not been fully transferred to Esquire Network, we may have actually seen the second season. With all the stakeholders involved being rather messy, it’s likely that Netflix passed up on the potential of renewing the show.

Is the show dead?
The answer to that question looks to be yes.
The show’s Twitter account went silent in December 2016 and most to all of the cast have moved onto different projects.

The last mention of the project that the cast did was earlier this year when Marc-Andre Grondin tweeted about the passing of a crew member on the show.

That brings us to now. Two years later, we don’t think we’ll ever see the return of Spotless which is a shame given it had such potential.
